Scott McClellan, former White House Press Secretary, penned the new book “WHAT HAPPENED: Inside the Bush White House and What’s Wrong With Washington” tells his story of the years in the Bush White House. The book is highly viewed by Bush supporters as a “betrayal” to the Bush White House. Ari Fleischer, former Bush Press Secretary, Dan Bartlett, former Counselor to President Bush and Karl Rove “Bush’s Brain” have reacted by painting Scott McClellan as a “disgruntled” worker looking for pay back and a pay day with the timing of the book release. I think it is interesting that Bush loyalists are using words such as; “puzzled”, saddened”, “sounds like a left-wing blogger” or “this is not the Scott we knew”, to describe Mr. McClellan’s scathing portrayal of the events leading up to selling the Iraq war, the CIA leak case of Valerie Plame and his assessment of George W. Bush’s thought process.
I think it is very admirable of Scott McClellan to tell the truth as he knows it, in order to give the public a behind the scenes look of the secretive Bush White House. The bigger story, he says, is how all the staff for President Bush, including Bush, thought they all could change Washington politics for the better. He thought the timing of his book release was important so that McCain or Obama would not make the same mistakes in the future. I believe the critizism of the last 8 years is far from over for Rove, Bush, Cheney and perhaps Rumsfeld. Kudos to McClellan for standing up for what is right!
